My name is Robert Lee, and I am an instructor certified with Performance Freediving (TM). You can see my bio here. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, but also spend a lot of time in Seattle, LA and Hawaii.
I offer private versions of the Performance Freediving Intermediate class. The class is 4 full days, or about 32 hours. The first 2 days are class and pool sessions. The last 2 days are ocean sessions. The curriculum includes:
- Safety and Buddy Procedures
- Equipment for Performance Freediving
- Proper Ventilation for Gas Saturation and Volume
- Psychological Aspects of Freediving
- Physics and Physiology of Freediving
- Confined Water Static Apnea Development
- Open Water Constant Ballast Development
- Techniques for Intermediate Freediving
- Online and/or Local Shopping Trip to Prepare for Ocean Sessions
I also offer a two-day Intermediate Starter course that includes just the class and pool sessions. There are at few reasons why you might prefer the Starter. First, you can learn the basics of freediving before committing to the more challenging ocean sessions. The safety information in the Starter course alone makes is a compelling reason to take it. Second, you can arrange the two days customized to your own schedule and location. While you can do this with the entire 4 day course, this cost for this is much higher significant, and instructor availability for custom 4 day courses is limited.
After taking the Starter course, you can arrange to the take the remaining 2 days with me, or with another Performance Freediving course provider. If you do not want any kind of custom package at all, you can just go ahead and just take the standard 3.5 day Performance Freediving Intermediate course, which is taught a few times a year in CA according to this schedule). I should emphasize that my custom classes cost more than these standard classes, because (1) they are private classes done on your schedule and (2) they are a half-day longer than the standard class, including an equipment shopping trip and an extra pool session as an ocean simulation
I like to compare myself to Bill Tai, the kitesurfing VC. Except, that, well, Bill Tai is big wig in Silicon Valley– a Principal at Charles River Ventures, who has founded or invested in several technology companies that have gone public. I, on the other hand, am just a normal guy in Silicon Valley. I received my JD/MBA from UC Berkeley, BS/BA from Yale and work as a business consultant and corporate/patent attorney in the valley. You can read about my day job here.
I am also a health fitness specialist certified by the American College of Sports Medicine, and have published a physiology paper in the Journal of Applied Physiology, so I have a strong background in sports coaching and science to help you learn this sport.
Cheers!
